1899 news tidbit
From the guest
book:
"William
Collins was shot to death in, or near, his store near
Potterville; his wife observed the murder. There is a belief that
the shooting was to revenge an earlier shooting when Mr. Collins
shot a Mr Fox. A few days after Mr Collins was shot a family
friend walking with Mrs. Collins was shot from ambush."
Patti Hall-Smith responded
to a request for more information and provided the
following: Thanks
Patti!
The Daily Gazette,
19 Jan 1899
"Andy Fox, shot by Collins is dead"
The Daily Gazette,
23 May 1899
"Hester Collins was shot from ambush while on his way to work on
his farm near Pottersville this morning."
Howell County Gazette,
1898-1908
