Ira Gilbert Daugherty | Departed this life on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at 12:55
a.m. at the Willow Care Nursing Home in Willow Springs, Mo. He was 83 years, 7
months and 14 days of age. He was born on Jan. 11, 1925, in Clear Springs, Mo.,
the son of Gilbert and Susan (Godsey) Daugherty. He attended the Oak Ridge
Country Grade School and the Willow Springs High School. Ira was united in
marriage to Ellen Magdelene Grogan on April 15, 1946, in Willow Springs, Mo.,
and to this union three children were born, Charles, Gerald and Linda. Brother
Ira’s occupations consisted of farming, logging, factory work and obeying God’s
call to the ministry. Brother Daugherty got saved and filled with the Holy Ghost
in 1951 when he was 26. Shortly thereafter, God called him to preach. He
pastored numerous churches in the area, held many street corner meetings and
revivals and spread God’s love and word to the very end of his life. Besides
being with the loves of his life, Ellen and his children and grandchildren,
Brother Ira enjoyed playing the harmonica, mandolin or guitar with Sister Ellen
on the piano or her guitar. He loved to fish, hunt, garden, visit the sick and
read the Bible and help people in any way he could. In the latter part of his
life, he and Ellen loved to listen to gospel singing and preaching on the radio
as well as reading the Bible together. He loved Charles coming to fix him
breakfast on the weekends in the morning, his strawberry ice cream, fish from
Captain D’s that Charles brought and mini-giver one muffins that his
step-granddaughter Kira made him many times. He also so looked forward to each
and every visit that Gerald and Rosie made many, many times, as well as seeing
his one and only daughter, Linda. With the care his daughter-in-law, Linda, gave
to “Dad” as she called him, he grew very close to her and she to him. To quote
her words, “He is the best Dad a daughter-in-law could have.” Ira was preceded
in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his
wife, Ellen of Willow Springs, Mo.; sons, Charles W. Daugherty and wife, Linda,
of Willow Springs, Mo., and Gerald Daugherty and wife, Rosie of Thomasville, Mo;
daughter, Linda Lovan of Dora, Mo.; seven grandchildren, John (Rob) Daugherty
