Maria Pepperrell 'Bhabes' Gelito Tait | Born Aug. 24, 1959 on the Resort Island of Boracay, in Aklan, Philippines, in a tiny 7 by 9 foot house called a "nipa hut". This was built in the middle of a pineapple field with no other structure in site. This was before it was well known, when all that lived there were coconut and pineapple farmers. Her mother abandoned her at an early age, there is no official record of her birth. Her father was Diogenes Maming Gelito. Crispina D. Alorro was her step-mother. She had one younger sister, Irene. She married David Alan 'Lan' Tait, a Missouri hog farmer, on August 19, 1987, in Tondo, Manila. This marriage produced three children, Salome Priscilla Tait, David Alan Tait Jr., and Diogenes Clayton Tait. Bhabes was a graphics retouch artist and helped restore many antique comics for republication in books, so that many future generations may enjoy them. She loved our Missouri farm, and our team of horses, Ginger and Pepper. When these two gave birth on the same day, she named the baby horses, Gingerrell (Ginger Ale) and Pepperrell! The week before she died she told me on the phone that she would miss our Missouri farm forever. It struck me as strange the way she said it, she was just planning a return trip to me (her husband) in the Philippines. Later I would remember what she said, and it brought a happy thought to my mind... She was only two minutes away from our farm when God took her to Heaven. Surely there must be horses in heaven for Bhabes! She died on Dec. 30, 1994 on Hwy 60 near Hutton Valley, going to the store in Willow Springs, when a out-of-control truck crossed the road and hit her car head-on. Bhabes was waiting for me in Heaven before the wheels stopped spinning. Save me a place at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb! Bhabes, 'I'll meet you when my chores are through.' (Burial at Greenlawn Cemetery, Mountain View MO.) |

'REMEMBERING MYNDE TARTER – Dr. Rick Walker of Southern Missouri Orthopaedic Clinic in West Plains, presents a check to Betty Tarter, West Plains, and Justina Begemann, Odessa, in support of the new Mynde N. Tarter Memorial Grizzly Volleyball Scholarship. Walker and his wife, Melanie, established the scholarship in honor of Mynde Tarter, a former Missouri State University-West Plains Lady Grizzly volleyball player who died this summer in an automobile accident. Begemann, a sophomore member of the Lady Grizzly team, is the scholarship's first recipient. From left are Rick and Melanie Walker; Begemann; Mynde's parents Betty and Harry Tarter; Lady Grizzly Assistant Coach Paula Wiedemann; Lady Grizzly Head Coach Trish Knight; and Dr. Herb Lunday, MSU-West Plains dean of student services/athletic director. (Photo provided to The Quill)' 'Scholarship established in memory of former Grizzly player Mynde Tarter - Dr. Rick Walker of Southern Missouri Orthopaedic Clinic in West Plains has donated funds to the Missouri State University Foundation to create the Mynde N. Tarter Memorial Grizzly Volleyball Scholarship to honor the late Lady Grizzly who died earlier this summer in an automobile accident. "We had the privilege of meeting Mynde as a patient and found her to be a very energetic and outgoing young lady," Walker said. "During this time, I also had the opportunity to meet Mynde's parents. They were very proud of Mynde and her achievements. When I heard of Mynde's accident, my wife, Melanie, and I discussed how we could honor both Mynde's memory and her family. We discussed the idea of a memorial scholarship and spoke with (Lady Grizzly Head) Coach Trish Knight and Herb Lunday (dean of student services/athletic director), and we put together the Mynde Tarter Memorial Scholarship. We count this as a privilege to establish this scholarship in order to honor Mynde's memory and contributions to Lady Grizzly volleyball. It is our sincere hope that many athletes in years to come will be blessed by the Tarters' tragic loss." Knight said, "I think it's really a great gesture on Dr. Walker's part to honor the memory of such a great lady. Mynde just lit up the gym with her presence. We're very excited about the scholarship and what it means for our program. Every time somebody does something like this, it keeps us at a competitive level, and Mynde loved to compete. We are so proud of her and proud of this opportunity to help fellow student-athletes in her name." Tarter's parents, Harry and Betty Tarter, West Plains, said they appreciated Walker's generosity. "Mynde was active in sports since the age of three. She played basketball, softball, track and volleyball. It was not until high school that she decided that volleyball was her favorite sport, and it was at this time she decided to attend Missouri State University to make her dream come true and play as a Grizzly. We want to thank Dr. Walker for giving some young lady the opportunity to live her dream through this scholarship," Harry and Betty Tarter said. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a student-athlete participating in the Lady Grizzly program who demonstrates personal integrity and character, leadership qualities, the potential to succeed academically, and the ability to represent MSU-WP with excellence, according to the scholarship's guidelines. Knight said the first recipient will be sophomore right side attacker Justina Begemann, Tarter's roommate in the university's residence hall. "It just seems right to give the scholarship this year to Justina," the coach said. ' |

After returning to his hometown of Mountain View, Missouri, Rolly married Aileen Henry on August 15, 1946. To this union one son, Orville, was born. After the loss of Aileen, Rolly married Judy Clark on June 8, 1985. They then made their home in Birch Tree, Missouri where Rolly became Mayor and served more than two terms until his declining health forced him to resign. Rolly drove a truck for more than 47 years working for various companies and retiring from Craig Charcoal of Summersville, Missouri. Those who worked with Rolly often commented on his dedication to his work and his ability to train almost anyone to drive a truck. After many years of driving thousands of miles at night, Rolly became known as 'the nightcrawler' across southern Missouri. In his younger years, Rolly enjoyed spending time at the lake, as well as the racetrack. After grandchildren started coming along, Rolly could be found spending the afternoon teaching them how to drive a car or truck, ride a lawnmower, or pedal a new bike that he tested out for them. He was very proud of all of them and was always interested in what they were doing and their accomplishments. Rolly loved to work in his yard, and after his retirement, one of his favorite pastimes was mowing the yard. Rolly was preceded in death by his parents, one older brother, Eldo Throckmorton, one older sister, Azalea Schuster, wife Aileen, and one grandson, Jeremy Beavers. Rolly is survived by his wife, Judy, of the family home; one son, Orville Throckmorton and wife, Wanda, of Liberty, Missouri; one stepson, Eugene Cowen and wife, Bethany, of St. Peters, Missouri; one stepdaughter, Tammy Brockelbank and husband, Shawn, of Birch Tree, Missouri; four grandsons, Scott and Ian Throckmorton, Nathan Cowen and Christopher Brockelbank; three granddaughters, Heather Cowen, Rebekah and Jordan Brockelbank; three great- granddaughters and three great-grandsons; and several other family members that will miss him. Rolly had given his life to the Lord and that gave him the comfort and peace to get through the last few years of his life. Rolly will be remembered for his kindness and generosity to everyone that knew him. Not many people ever asked Rolly for a helping hand because he usually had already started or finished what he could do to help someone in need before they ever had a chance to ask. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2008 in Yarber Chapel with Bro. Roger Smith officiating.
